280 characters - Twitter update

Image result for twitter 280 characters

Twitter doubled its character limit in a recent update. This is to make it easier for people to express themselves, but the only thing I see so far are people posting memes.

I like Twitter for its short pieces of text. 280 characters is still somewhat a short read, and is better so that people don't have to split their Tweets in two. However, there are some who don't like the new update.

They say the update will make Tweets too long to read, and our attention span will make us lose focus.

However, making your Tweets 280 characters long isn't necessary. You can still make your Tweets short if you want. There are plenty people use Twitter for promotion anyway, so all they need is a link and a couple of hashtags.

Many people used URL shorteners for in order to keep their Tweets short, so this update may make these services less popular.

Japanese, Korean, and Chinese Tweets will remain at 140 characters maximum, because words in those languages obviously don't take up as many characters. The average amount of characters in an English word is like...6 characters? Words in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese are about three times less.

I honestly don't mind the update. I don't mind reading that much, so I can live with it.

This update occurred on November 7, and you can see how the stock market reacted:
The price didn't go dramatically up, but it still increased a bit.

President Donald Trump is a prominent figure on Twitter, so it may be interesting to see what he does with this new update. He hasn't done anything as of yet, but we shall see...

Now, what we really need is an edit button. I do hope we have that in the next update.
