Star Wars Battlefront II

EA's FPS Star Wars Battlefront II is coming out on Friday, but a look at this "pay to win" game has caused some frustration on Reddit.

It is shown that about 40 hours of grinding will be needed to unlock characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Since each match is 15 minutes, it will take about 160 matches to be able to unlock these characters.

This is a loooooong time, but that's not what upset people. It's the fact that others can pay to buy loot boxes for credits in order to buy these characters. So those who can pay for the loot boxes have a HUGE advantage as Vader over lowly rebel forces.

This caused a huge upset in the Reddit community. When a representative from EA went on Reddit to address concerns, it became the most downvoted comment in Reddit history.

It also affected the EA stock slightly:

Even Star Wars HQ gave Battlefront II a bad review:

After all this, EA decided to cut the costs of the characters by 75%.

EA in an email to CNET:

Calculating: about 10 hours of grinding now (40 matches)

There's still some frustration on EA and how it "turned to the dark side".

However, the single-player campaign seems promising. It takes place before The Force Awakens and explains what happened to Luke Skywalker.

I actually care more about the single-player experience than multiplayer (I'm an introvert), but the 40-hour grind was ridiculous. I'm glad EA addressed these concerns. However, this probably won't be the last update they will have to make in order to please the already frustrated audience.

Update: Sorry! Had to repost because blogger wouldn't show anything for some weird reason.
